Board filters are a great way to keep your project board clean and organized by only showing you projects and tasks that meet predefined criteria. This article will show you how to filter your tasks according to when they start or are due, such as today, next week, or any other specified timeframe.
Creating a Board Filter
First things first, you will need to create a board filter. You can refer to this article if you need assistance on the process: Create Custom Filters. That article outlines the steps to create a generic board filter, and the timeframe options will be outlined below in this article.
Filter by Timeframe
For the purpose of this article, we will use an example where we will filter our tasks to see the ones that are due this week. You can then further adjust the filter criteria as necessary.
- In the All Work tab, in the left sidebar, click on the + icon next to Board Filters.
- Select Board Filter.
- Select or Add Project Filter. Click into the field and select My Projects.
Tip: You can select any other standard or custom project filter option in this section. Alternatively, you can also select the 'Do not apply a project filter' option to make the board filter be driven by task criteria. If the checkbox is checked, the project list in your left sidebar will filter automatically to display only those projects that contain tasks that meet the criteria. - Select or Add Task Filter. Click into the field and select My Tasks (standard option).
- Below, click on Add Filter.
- In the New Filter Details box that appears, set the following:
- Filter By = End Date
Tip: For this field, you can also select Start Date if you would rather filter tasks based on when they start. - Operator = equals
- Value = THIS_WEEK
Note: In this case, it is important that the value is entered in uppercase letters. In addition, this is where you would enter any other timeframe value (listed below) to filter tasks as necessary. - Click Apply.
- In the Name Task Filter field, enter the name of the task filter.
- Name Board Filter. Enter a name for this board filter (i.e. "Tasks Due This Week").
- Click Save.
Timeframe Criteria Options
Here is the full list of all the criteria that can be used to filter tasks by timeframe. Remember, these values must be entered in uppercase letters in order for the board filters to work correctly.
