Task Groups allow you to define the structure of your projects. Using task groups, you can organize the tasks in your projects into groups, such as phases, sprints, themes, or other attributes that are unique to your process.
You can manage task groups in Kanban, Row, and Plan Views. In Kanban and Row Views, you will have the option to enter Task Group Mode, which is designed specifically to view and manage task groups. Keep in mind, Task Group Mode is only available in single project view (in other words, only one project must be selected on the board).
It is also possible to view task groups in the Portfolio View.
[All Work] [Kanban View] Task Group Mode
- In the left sidebar, click on a project to enter single project view. Alternatively, you can use Single Project Search to select the project.
- In Kanban View, in the top right corner of the page, switch the Task Group Mode toggle to on.
Note: If you can't switch the toggle to on (toggle is inactive), check that you only have one project selected in the left sidebar. Task Group Mode cannot be turned on when multiple projects are selected. - The board will change:
- If the project does not contain any task groups, you will see all of your tasks in the Ungrouped row. From here, your first step would be to create a task group.
- If the project already contains task groups, you will see each task group represented as a row on the board.
- If the project does not have any tasks or task groups, you will see two buttons in the middle of the screen: + Add Task and + Add Task Group.
In Task Group Mode, you can add tasks to task groups, move tasks between task groups, sort task groups, and more.
[All Work] [Row View] Task Group Mode
- In the left sidebar, click on a project to enter single project view. Alternatively, you can use Single Project Search to select the project.
- In Row View, in the top right corner of the page, switch the Task Group Mode toggle to on.
Note: If you can't switch the toggle to on (toggle is inactive), check that you only have one project selected in the left sidebar. Task Group Mode cannot be turned on when multiple projects are selected. - The board will change:
- If the project does not contain any task groups, you will see all of your tasks in the Ungrouped section groupings. From here, your first step would be to create a task group.
- If the project already contains task groups, you will see each task group represented as a section with groupings on the board.
- If the project does not have any tasks or task groups, you will see two buttons in the middle of the screen: + Add Task and + Add Task Group.
In Task Group Mode, the Row View board is separated into sections that represent task groups. Each section contains a set of groupings, which can be changed the same way as in regular Row View (using the Group By control at the top of the page). Tasks can be moved between groupings and sections, which simultaneously reassigns the tasks to new task groups and updates them according to the destination grouping's field value.
In Task Group Mode, you can add tasks to task groups, move tasks between task groups, sort task groups, and more.
[Performance] Portfolio View
While the Portfolio View does not have a Task Group Mode, it still provides a way to view task groups. To do this, locate the project that contains task groups that you want to view and click on the Arrow icon to the left of the project name to expand the project row. You can also click on the Arrow icon in the list header to expand or collapse all project rows.
