Projects can be cloned to create new Projects, while copying over all of the Tasks, Task Groups, Checklists, Files, and other Project information. The cloning process, as well as the outcome, will vary depending on whether or not dependencies are enabled in your org. You can read more about dependencies and how to manage them here.
Cloning a Project will:
- Copy all field values of the Project, Task Group, related Tasks (including topics), and Checklists
- Copy Task dependencies (if enabled)
- Copy all Chatter Groups associations applied to the original Project
- Copy the Project Team
- Copy Project, Task Group and Task Files
- Set the cloned Project to Active (in other words, if you clone an archived project, TaskRay will not create an archived project clone)
- Set the Clone Operation Complete checkbox on the cloned Project and Task Group(s) to true
Cloning a Project will not clone any associated Chatter conversations, although it will clone Chatter files.
Clone Projects
You can clone Projects and sub-Projects, as well as their related Tasks from the Project details. Cloning a Project will preserve and copy any existing Task dependencies from the originating Project. With dependencies enabled, you can set a new Project schedule at the time of cloning. The new (cloned) Project's schedule can be based on the date of the first Task in the Project, the date of the last Task in the Project, or a Milestone date.
- In the All Work tab, in left sidebar, hover over a project that you want to clone and click on the More Actions icon that appears.
- Select Clone Project. Alternatively, open Project Details and click Clone.
Tip: You can also access the Clone Project option from the Performance tab Portfolio View. To do this, hover over the row for the project that you want to clone, click on the More Actions icon on the far right, and select Clone Project.
- This will open the Clone Project window, which will be organized into steps. Step 1: Project Name. This is the name of the original project that you are cloning.
- Step 2: Schedule. Choose between Set first task date, Set last task date, and Set milestone date. This will determine the dates for the tasks in the cloned new project: tasks will be rescheduled automatically based on the selected option and date.
- If you select Set first task date or Set last task date, you will need to click into the Date field and select the date for the first or last task of the new project.
- If you select Set milestone date, you will need to first click into the Select milestone field to pick a milestone (the menu will list all milestones from the original project) and then click into the Date field to schedule it for the new project.
Note: The selected milestone must be scheduled in the original project in order to be used for scheduling tasks in the new project. If the original project does not contain any milestones, this option cannot be used for cloning.
- Step 3: Name Project. Enter the name of the new project.
- Click Clone.
