Time entries can be added as billable or non-billable. It is possible to set the default Billable value for time entries at the org or task level. Setting the billable default at the org level could be useful in cases where the majority of time entries need to be the same (billable or non-billable). Meanwhile, the task-level approach is provided for use cases where certain tasks have specific requirements for billable/non-billable time tracking. When logging time, team members also have the ability to mark time entries as billable or non-billable regardless of the default configurations.
For the Premium Edition of TaskRay, billable/non-billable time is one of the factors involved in capacity planning and it allows for distinguishing between billable and non-billable types of work for resource utilization.

Task-Level Billable Defaults
Task-level billable defaults are typically managed either by template managers or project managers directly on applicable tasks. Setting the default at the task level is useful in cases when it is necessary to prescribe how the time should be logged related to specific pieces of work on a project.
The billable defaults set at the task level override the default billable configuration set at the org level.
While it is possible to set defaults on tasks within specific projects, one best practice is to define such defaults at the template level. By setting defaults on the template, every project created from that template will carry over the configurations and ensure that time entries are logged accordingly when tasks are being worked on.
For this purpose, the billable defaults are set using the Default Time Type field on the TaskRay Task object.
Logging Time & Billable Defaults
Once the defaults for billable are configured, you will see it reflected each time new time entries are made. If necessary, such as for exceptions, users can change the Billable value from the default when logging time.
