Advanced Scheduler

The Advanced Scheduler is a utility that helps simplify the process of rescheduling Tasks in bulk. When plans change, the Advanced Scheduler helps ensure that projects in TaskRay accurately reflect new deadlines or delays by streamlining the experience of making bulk scheduling adjustments.

The Advanced Scheduler allows you to compress project timelines to meet new deadlines, reschedule multiple Tasks in bulk, or make manual scheduling adjustments to specific Tasks.  In the Advanced Scheduler, Dependencies are ignored so that you can make precise manual adjustments to specific Tasks without adjusting predecessor or successor Tasks.  Changes made in the Advanced Scheduler are not applied to the Project until you save and confirm.

Accessing the Advanced Scheduler

To open the Advanced Scheduler, select a single Project in Plan View and click the Advanced Scheduler button in the toolbar:

Use the options in the Advanced Scheduler toolbar to choose between Manual Adjustments and Bulk Adjustments.  You can also filter the Tasks shown on the timeline by List:

Manual Adjustments

In Manual Adjustments mode, you can modify the schedule or duration of any Task in the timeline without being constrained by dependencies, lag, or automatic rescheduling around non-working days.  Simply click and drag a Task in the timeline to adjust its schedule or duration.

To undo your changes and revert back to the original state of the Project, click the Revert Changes button in the toolbar:

Bulk Adjustments

In Bulk Adjustments mode, you can modify the schedule or duration of multiple Tasks at once.  Changes will not be saved to the Project until you save and confirm, so you can make a series of bulk adjustments before committing them to the Project.  You can also use the Lock Duration and Exclude From Modifications options to lock the duration of a Task or exclude a Task from being modified when making bulk adjustments, respectively.

Using the Bulk Adjustment Sliders

In Bulk Adjustments mode, there are Selection Sliders and Modification Sliders that allow you to select and adjust the schedule or duration of Tasks.

Selection Sliders

Use the Selection Sliders to select the Tasks on the timeline that you would like to adjust in bulk.  The Left and Right Selection Sliders control the size of the selection area. Tasks that fall within the selection area will be captured in the bulk update. 

Alternatively, you can hover over the selection sliders, and utilize the popover to select a start and end date of your selection. 

Modification Sliders

Once you've selected the Tasks you'd like to adjust, use the Modification Sliders to reschedule or adjust the duration of the Tasks in the selection area.  You can use the Left and Right Modification Sliders to proportionally adjust the duration of Tasks in the selection area.

You can use the Center Modification Slider to reschedule all Tasks in the selection area.

Alternatively, you can hover over the modification sliders, and utilize the popover to select a start and/or end date of your selection. 

To undo your changes and revert back to the original state of the Project, click the Revert Changes button in the toolbar:

Save Changes

When you're ready to save your changes, click the Save button in the toolbar to review your adjustments.  You can also use the Export Change Log option to generate a CSV file that includes a summary of all changes.
