Connect claude.ai (web) to TaskRay MCP

This guide connects claude.ai, the web app, to your TaskRay data using a custom connector. Once connected, you can ask Claude to summarize projects, triage your week, and more, all scoped to your own Salesforce permissions.

Before you start You'll need a TaskRay MCP beta enrollment for your org (your admin handles this, see the Administrator Installation & Setup guide), both permission sets assigned to you by your admin (TaskRay Agents App Access and TaskRay Agents - User), and, on a Team or Enterprise plan, a workspace admin who has added the TaskRay connector (see Workspace admins below).

Connect (individual)

  1. Open the TaskRay connection page and sign in with Salesforce. Use https://mcp.taskray.com/oauth/login for a production org, or https://mcp.taskray.com/oauth/login?sandbox=true for a sandbox or scratch org.
  2. After sign-in, the connected page shows your org's connector URL. Copy it.
  3. In claude.ai, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and set authentication to OAuth.
  4. Complete the Salesforce sign-in when prompted. The TaskRay tools are now available in your chats.
Adding a custom connector in claude.ai Connector settings and the exact steps can change, so for the current path see Anthropic's custom connector guide.

Workspace admins: set up a shared connector (Team / Enterprise)

On Team and Enterprise plans, custom connectors are added by a workspace admin once for the whole workspace, and each member then authenticates individually.

  1. Enable custom connectors for your workspace. They're off by default on most Enterprise plans, and this is the gate that blocks everyone, including admins, until enabled.
  2. Get your org's connector URL. As any provisioned user, open the TaskRay connection page and sign in once. The connected page shows your org's connector URL. Copy it.
  3. Add it as the workspace connector in claude.ai.
  4. Tell your users to sign in. They open the now-visible TaskRay connector and complete their own Salesforce sign-in. There is no URL for them to paste.
Visible to all does not mean usable by all A workspace connector is visible to every member, but only users provisioned in Salesforce (both permission sets) can complete sign-in. An unprovisioned member will see the connector and hit "access denied," which is the per-user gate working as intended.
One connector URL is one Salesforce org The connector URL pins to a single Salesforce org. A workspace whose members span multiple Salesforce orgs needs a separate connector per org.
That's it! claude.ai is now connected to your TaskRay data. See the First Prompts to Try after Connecting TaskRay MCP for what to ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Sign-in opened the production login instead of my sandbox. What happened?
Use the ?sandbox=true connection link for sandbox and scratch orgs. The production link always sends sign-in to login.salesforce.com.

Q. I can see the TaskRay connector, but I get "access denied" when I sign in.
You aren't provisioned in Salesforce yet. Ask your admin to assign both permission sets and confirm your App Access is selected on the External Client App. Seeing the connector isn't the same as being able to use it.

Q. Sign-in works, but tool calls fail.
You're missing the TaskRay Agents - User permission set, which grants API Enabled. Ask your admin to assign it.

Q. I don't see any option to add a custom connector.
On Team and Enterprise plans, custom connectors are off until a workspace admin enables them and adds the TaskRay connector. See the section above.

Still stuck? Contact TaskRay Support with the exact error text and which org (production or sandbox) you're connecting.
