This guide connects ChatGPT to your TaskRay data using a custom connector. Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to summarize projects, triage your week, and more, all scoped to your own Salesforce permissions.
Connect (individual)
- Open the TaskRay connection page and sign in with Salesforce. Use
https://mcp.taskray.com/oauth/loginfor a production org, orhttps://mcp.taskray.com/oauth/login?sandbox=truefor a sandbox or scratch org. - After sign-in, the connected page shows your org's connector URL. Copy it.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors, add a custom connector using that URL, and set authentication to OAuth.
- Complete the Salesforce sign-in when prompted. The TaskRay tools are now available.
Workspace admins: set up a shared connector (Team / Enterprise)
On Team and Enterprise plans, custom connectors are added by a workspace admin once for the whole workspace, and each member then authenticates individually.
- Enable custom connectors for your workspace. They're off by default on most Enterprise plans, and this is the gate that blocks everyone, including admins, until enabled.
- Get your org's connector URL. As any provisioned user, open the TaskRay connection page and sign in once, then copy the connector URL shown.
- Add it as the workspace connector in ChatGPT.
- Tell your users to sign in. They open the now-visible TaskRay connector and complete their own Salesforce sign-in. There is no URL for them to paste.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Sign-in opened the production login instead of my sandbox. What happened?
Use the ?sandbox=true connection link for sandbox and scratch orgs. The production link always sends sign-in to login.salesforce.com.
Q. I can see the TaskRay connector, but I get "access denied" when I sign in.
You aren't provisioned in Salesforce yet. Ask your admin to assign both permission sets and confirm your App Access is selected on the External Client App.
Q. Sign-in works, but tool calls fail.
You're missing the TaskRay Agents - User permission set, which grants API Enabled. Ask your admin to assign it.
Q. I don't see any option to add a custom connector.
Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and, on Team or Enterprise, on a workspace admin enabling them first. See the section above.
